Wireless lace lingerie: bralette, soft bra or triangle bra

Bralette, soft bra or triangle in lace: what going without underwire changes, who it suits, and the handmade atelier culotté pieces that fit the bill.

Wireless lace lingerie is all about softness: no rigid wire under the cups, just lace that follows the bust instead of constraining it. At atelier culotté it comes in three shapes, the bralette, the soft bra and the triangle, all sewn by hand in the Andoins workshop, in the Béarn region of south west France.

Why choose wireless lace lingerie

Underwire is there to support and separate the bust. Going without it gives you something else:

  • Comfort: nothing digs in under the bust or marks the skin by the end of the day.
  • A natural shape: the lace follows your bust as it is, without lifting or moulding it.
  • Lightness: a soft piece slips under a shirt, shows discreetly under a top or is worn on its own.

The trade-off is light support. The workshop’s product pages say so plainly, and that is the right way to choose: know what you expect from a piece before you buy it. None of the lace bra pages mentions underwire or moulded cups: these are soft cuts, designed for comfort and for the eye.

Bralette, soft bra, triangle: three wireless cuts

The EXPRESSO bralette, minimalist

The EXPRESSO bralette is a bra in sheer brown lace, with a minimalist cut and a jewel that acts as the centre front fastening. Its page promises light support. It was a requested new design, made to go with the tanga bloomer from the same collection. It comes in S, M and L, at €55.

The 50 NUANCES soft bra, adjustable at the back

The 50 NUANCES soft bra is cut from a fine, stretchy black floral lace, edged with decorative elastics. It hooks at the back with three settings, so you can adjust the underband. The page describes it as ideal for light support and offers a styling idea: “Dare to wear it under a sheer shirt, it makes quite an impression!” It costs €55.

The CARMELIA triangle, a statement piece

The CARMELIA triangle combines red and pink lace shaded with sheer areas, non-adjustable straps in stretch jersey and a central jewel in stainless steel. Its page is the most candid of the three: very light support, “it is more of an aesthetic piece”. It is recommended for “anyone looking for comfort who is no longer used to wearing a bra”. It belongs to a very limited collection.

To compare these shapes in more detail, the article bralette, soft bra or triangle goes through their differences.

Small or full bust: which size to choose

Without underwire, size is chosen as much for the effect you want as for a measurement. The product pages give concrete reference points:

  • For the EXPRESSO bralette, Noémia (size 36, B cup) wears an S “for a minimalist effect”, and Audrey (size 38, C cup) wears an L “for a fuller-coverage effect”.
  • For the 50 NUANCES soft bra, Noémia wears an S and Audrey an M.
  • For the CARMELIA triangle, Claire, who is an 85 F, wears a size L.

The same person may therefore hesitate between two sizes, depending on whether she wants lace that reveals or lace that covers. The blog’s size guide brings all these reference points together, and if your body shape matches none of them, the designer answers questions from the Contact page.

To be honest: a full bust looking for real all-day support will not find here the hold of an underwired bra. These pieces are made for feeling free: a moment to yourself, an evening out, a day when you want lightness. “Each design is made to reveal, never to constrain,” says Chloé, the designer.

Completing the set with matching briefs

Wireless lace lingerie is rarely worn alone. Several of the workshop’s bottoms are cut from the same lace:

  • In EXPRESSO lace: the EXPRESSO tanga bloomer, described as “the best-seller”, the bloomer briefs, its fuller-coverage version, and the ruffle thong, all mid-rise.
  • In 50 NUANCES lace: the 50 NUANCES briefs, low-rise, adorned with jewels at the front, with a slightly high-cut back.

All these bottoms have a 100% cotton gusset. The tops are gathered in the bras and bralettes section. Tops and bottoms are sold separately, each in its own size: nothing obliges you to take the same size top and bottom.

If you love lace during the day too, the EXPRESSO draped top was designed as a 2-in-1: by day with jeans, by night with its matching briefs. Its front is lined, with no sheerness, and it comes in one size.

Making lace last

Fine lace needs a little attention. For the EXPRESSO bralette and the 50 NUANCES soft bra and briefs, the product pages state:

  • Wash at 40°C maximum
  • Do not bleach
  • Iron at low temperature
  • Do not dry clean
  • Do not tumble dry
  • Always wash the item before wearing it

Beyond these instructions, washing by hand or in a mesh bag and drying flat limits snags and keeps the edges stretchy. The steps are detailed in the article washing lace lingerie.

Frequently asked questions

Does wireless lingerie support the bust?

It offers light support, not a firm hold. A soft bra that hooks at the back, like the 50 NUANCES, adjusts better than a triangle with fixed straps. For firm all-day support, an underwired bra remains the better choice.

Can you wear a bralette with a full bust?

Yes, if you are after comfort rather than support. On the CARMELIA triangle page, Claire is an 85 F and wears a size L. Going up a size gives fuller coverage, as Audrey does in the EXPRESSO bralette.

What is the difference between a bralette and a soft bra?

Both are soft bras without underwire. A bralette is often more minimalist and decorative, made to be seen; a soft bra generally covers a little more. At atelier culotté, both sit in the same section of the shop.

Can sheer lace be worn every day?

Yes, with cotton-gusset briefs for comfort, under an opaque garment or, if you dare, under a sheer shirt. For lace that reveals nothing, the EXPRESSO draped top has a lined front.
